The stars of Fox drama Terra Nova have reacted to the show's cancellation.

The sci-fi series - executive produced by Steven Spielberg and 24's Jon Cassar - was axed by Fox after a single 13-episode season.

"Bad news guys, Terra Nova has been canceled," star Jason O'Mara (Jim Shannon) confirmed on Twitter. "We're gonna try and get another network to do it. Stand by."

He added: "Thx for the immense outpouring of love & support for [the show], which is currently trending worldwide (sic)."

Co-star Naomi Scott, who played Jim's daughter Maddy, wrote: "Just heard the news about Terra, thanks for all your support guys.

"It was a truly amazing experience, I was so blessed to get the opportunity."

Exec producer Cassar later commented: "Sad day for Terra Nova fans and the cast and crew, in both the US and Australia. It was a wonderful show to work on."

The final episode of Terra Nova aired on December 19, 2011.
